This is the fifth installment in an interview series with the 2021 Target Takeoff Beauty cohort. Participating companies are sharing, in their own words, details about their innovative companies. All interviews have been conducted by the Target Takeoff Program Management team.
Meet Luna Magic.
TT: Mabel, what’s the one-liner description of Luna Magic?
Mabel: Beauty with a vibe.Great quality cosmetics at great prices.
TT: Shaira, what inspired you to start Luna Magic? What makes what you are doing different from anyone else in the marketplace?
Shaira: With Mabel’s corporate background in retail & e-commerce digital strategy for beauty and home decor retailers (companies include Macy’s, One Kings Lane, Nordstrom, Savage x Fenty), and my broadcast journalism experience and beauty school training, we joined forces to introduce an elevated approach to the beauty industry by introducing curated collections that are designed with luxurious packaging, and highly pigmented formulas to complement diverse skin tones. We are inspired by customers of all walks of life and can’t wait to grow our community to deliver a best-in-class experience, along with great quality cosmetics at great prices.
TT: How did you decide it was the right time to join an Accelerator? What are you most looking forward to getting out of the Target Takeoff experience?
Mabel: We believe the timing is now considering all the changes and excitement happening around the world to amplify voices and brands of people of color. We are excited to bring a fresh point of view to bring color and vibrancy to serve our multicultural customer base.
TT: What currently keeps you up at night, as founders/leaders of your company?
Shaira: What keeps us up at night is the excitement we feel with growing our company and brand! We love our company and our mission and are excited to share more of it with the world.
TT: How do you stay motivated through the ups and downs of growing a business?
Mabel: We feel very lucky to grow a business together as sisters. We rely on each other to put our heads together when we are working through business challenges. I believe this is the secret sauce to our team since we’ve been a team (as sisters) since we were kids!
TT: Fast forward one year from now – where do you see your company and your team?
Shaira: We see LUNA MAGIC at Target and our company working with key industry executive to guide the growth of our company. We also see ourselves working on great marketing stories and offline events to bring our community together.
